Emergency backup when disk failure is detected
Controls whether or not WindowSMART will run an emergency backup if a disk failure condition is detected. WindowSMART can run an emergency backup either to a local drive or to a shared drive over the network, and can also run a third-party program. If this policy is enabled, the settings you select are enforced and cannot be changed by the user. If this policy is disabled, an emergency backup will never run. If this policy is not configured, users are free to customize emergency backup settings.
If backing up over the network, you MUST specify a username and password. The password is stored encrypted, so you MUST paste the ENCRYPTED password value. The easiest way to set this up is to install WindowSMART on an administrator's PC, customize as desired and then export the Registry settings. You will need to copy the BackupPass registry value.
When specifying directories to include in a backup, enter them one per line. Note that an emergency backup will attempt to determine the drive letter(s) of a failing disk(s), so an emergency backup will only back up data from drive letter(s) on failing disks, not all of the specified folders. If the drive letters cannot be determined, all specified folders will be backed up.
Excluding items: To exclude items, you need to specify the pattern to exclude. If you want to exclude files or folders containing the term 'helloworld' then specify 'helloworld'. To exclude folders (and their contents) that start with the name 'helloworld' specify '\helloworld'. To exclude files with a .TMP extension specify '.tmp'. Do NOT use wildcard characters (* or ?) in your exclude items.
If running a third-party backup program, you can specify the arguments {PHYSICALDISKS} and {DRIVELETTERS} to pass a comma-separated list of failing disk numbers and letters, respectively, to the backup program.
Supported on: At least Microsoft Windows XP Professional with SP2 or Windows Server 2003 family with SP1
