Disk Temperature Preferences and Alerts

Configures the display preference of temperatures in the WindowSMART user interface. You can also specify the temperature thresholds (in Celsius) for Critical, Overheated, Hot and Warm, and also specify whether Hot and Warm alerts should be reported. If you specify that Hot alerts should be ignored but not Warm alerts, a policy error occurs. It is also a policy error to set a more severe temperature threshold less than that of a less severe temperature (i.e. setting 55 for Critical and 56 for Overheated).

WARNING: Do NOT disable this policy item. Disabling this policy item removes critical Registry entries that WindowSMART uses, and WindowSMART will automatically recreate default values. If you want to lock down these settings and prevent users from changing them, please set the policy to Enabled and specify the desired values.

If you choose to have the computer shut down in a thermal emergency (a disk remains overheated or critically hot for 3 or more consecutive polling intervals), your disk polling interval should be set in the range of 5-20 minutes).

Supported on: At least Microsoft Windows XP Professional with SP2 or Windows Server 2003 family with SP1
